Y7/8 Basketball Winter 2008

On Tuesday 26th August, year 7 and 8 boys (who were Zion Seong, Joshua Armitt, Adam King, Daniel Barker, Jayden Mathews, Lucas Sinclair, Abhi Bajwa and Stacey Ahipene) and girls competed at the Nor-West Basketball Tournament. This was held at Trust Stadium. Waiting for the first game which, was in 2minutes, felt more like 2 hours. At last the referee blew his whistle meaning to start the game. The first game started speedy and dirty. Stacey stole the ball passed to Joshua and … BASKET! The opposition’s ball. The in bounder passed stolen straight away by Adam, SCORED! Finally the game finished. The score was 16:15 to us. We exploded with happiness and smiles on our faces. We fought our way through each game showing great RRAP values. Eventually, we made it to the mighty finals versing West Harbour. The whistle sounded as loud as ever, the noise flowing through all our body. Our heart was pumping rapidly. The final has started. Adam won the tip off; he passed to Zion, to Jayden he scored! We fought helplessly for breath; not losing hope. At the end, our hard working efforts paid off, winning by a comfortable margin. The Hobsonville players played fairly while respecting other players.  The girl’s team consisted of: Monique Whareumu, Tiffany Kit, Danielle Barham, Amanda Csengo, Ariel Lu, Mereana Potts, Alice Cunnigham, Ashley Cavanagh. We played five round robin games and won them all. Which meant we had won the tournament and we are now going to the Auckland Champs. Now we hope to take the Auckland Tournament and win that too. A big thanks to Rob King for coaching the boys’ team and Lisa Bowater for coaching the girls, you both did a fantastic job!  We will appreciate any support for the Auckland Inter-Zones being held at Waitakere Trust Stadium on Wednesday the 3rd of September.
