Y7/8 Volleyball Spring 2008
Congratulations to the both the girls and the boys Y7/8 Volleyball teams, who on the last week of term competed against some fierce competition in the Nor-West Tournament. The boys who were able to transfer their soccer and basketball skills had formed much more of a team by the end of the day. They played against Lincoln Heights, Don Buck, Huapai, Royal Road and West Harbour losing by very close margins (except to Don Bucks) or drawing. The girls showed promise right from the start, winning all their games and being undefeated in their pool. They played against Woodhill, Marina View, Taupaki, Birdwood and Royal Road and as they were undefeated, came first in their pool. They then continued on to play Lincoln Heights (who were also undefeated in their pool) in an exciting final and placed 2nd at the end of the day. Although the whole team played fantastic, special mention must be made of Monique Whareumu’s all round dominance on the court (her spikes were a force to be reckoned with – the staff volleyball team know) and Alice Cunningham and Ashley Cavanagh’s powerful serves.As none of our children play club volleyball, we did especially well.
