Y7/8 Sporting Achievements for 2010

HOCKEY:

Thursday the 23rd July was an awesome day shared by both the Boys and the Girls Y7/8 Hockey Teams.  To say the least, hockey is a new sport to us here at Hobsonville and before yesterday only one student had ever played a real hockey match.  But, a combination of Miss Buhler’s knowledge of the game and the all the students sheer determination to succeed, led to the girls coming fourth (but only conceding 7 goals in 4 matches) and the boys went all the way to win the Norwest Hockey Zone by not losing a single game and will be representing our school at the Auckland Hockey Interzones.  Well done to all of you and I am especially proud of the way both the boys and the girls displayed outstanding sportsmanship throughout the day, I was extremely proud to be a Hobsonville member.  (Mr Hill)

NETBALL:

Y7/8 Netball: Wednesday 29th July was an amazing day shared by both the Girls and Boys Netball teams whereby they so proudly represented Hobsonville at the Norwest Zones.  The girls found it hard at first to find their combinations but fought back hard to win 3 games out of 6.  Also, the girls were in a Year 8 division and at least 50% of the team are Year Sevens, so we eagerly await next year.  The Boys proved to the entire Norwest Schools Cluster (16 different schools in total), that Hobsonville Boys are the Y8 winners and will go on to represent the Norwest Zone at the Auckland Interzones on Wednesday the 12th August.  This is an unforgettable achievement BOYS and you should all feel extremely proud of the way you played.  Special mention does need to be made of Connor Roebeck and Stacey Ahipene’s outstanding defence, as well as the Armitt brothers’ (Josh and Sam) thrilling and destructive attack.  Congratulations to both the boys and the girls, I am very proud of both your behaviour and performance.  (A very proud Mr Hill)
