Speech Competition

The art of capturing an audience.  Every year students in Years 5 – 8 get the dubious opportunity of feeling their knees wobble, butterflies in their stomachs and the awful sensation of their mouth running dry with anxiety.  This all forms part and parcel of “creating” and “delivering” a speech before one’s peers.  As in all things, practice makes perfect and this year was no different when the two finalists – one for Years 5/6 and one for Years 7/8 attended Sunderland School to represent our school.  It was quite coincidental that these were held during the spectacle of the Olympics and, similarly, our students won a gold and silver placing.  Isaac Legg – a Year 7 in Room 22 delivered a humorous speech on “Braces”, coming second.  In the Year 5/6 area, Paige Cantelo – Room 4 – came first with her very personal observations on being an older sister.  To have reached the finals is an achievement in itself but, to come so highly placed is a testament of excellence to both of these students.  They are to be congratulated on behalf of the school!
