Library News 2010

Welcome to our library web page.

Our library plays a central role in the life of the school. It is well resourced and managed and we are proud of the progress that has been made over the last few years in bringing our school library up to the high standards it meets today. Our school library has been used as a model to other schools in the area and we continue to work on improving the systems and expanding our collection of books.

The library has a variety of books spanning a wide range of levels and topics encouraging students to explore a full range of interests. Students go to the library every week. They are taught library skills such as using library browsing cards, index systems and how to borrow books. Junior students work towards obtaining their library licences; older students are given the opportunity of becoming 'school librarians' which involves intensive training throughout the year. These dedicated students often give up their morning tea and lunch times to run the library. Over the year they work towards their bronze silver and gold awards for their achievement in library skills.

This years inquiry is based around 'A Journey'. Each team uses the library and adjoining computer suite for research and to work through the stages of inquiry.

Book Week - Term 3

Our annual Book Fair takes place on Thursday 12 August in the library from 12.30pm to 8.00pm.  We will have a large range of Scholastic books on sale during this time and hope you will take the opportunity to visit the library.

As part of Book Week we look forward to welcoming Maria Gill (Author) and Lyn Kriegler (Illustrator / Storyteller) .  We also have plenty of lunchtime activities arranged including a visit from Waitakere Children's Librarian, Robert Baigent.

Detailed information regarding Book Week will be sent home early in Term 3.
